]When it comes to building chi power, tai chi chuan is one of the best. What’s interesting is that the concepts used in that martial art can be used in Karate, pa kua chang, hsing i, or whatever. The concepts are that universal.

One of the first practices one might find, if one finds a good tai chi chuan style, is ‘holding the bowl.’ This is an easy practice, at least for the first few minutes…smile. One simply goes into an hourglass position, back very slightly rounded, and holds the arms as if embracing a large pot.

The first problem one encounters when doing this exercise is mental. The mind starts thinking, and these thoughts tend to disturb the practice. Once one has firmly resolved to get past this phenomena, however, the mental aspect resolves.

The second challenge in doing this drill is physical in nature. After sixty minutes or so, the body tends to get riled. It doesn’t want to run energy through it, it doesn’t want the discipline, and it will shake and shimmy and and even try to get sick.

Just ignore the mental yak yak, and forget the body protest, and focus yourself on the stillness of the mind (listening to the universe), and move chi power through the body. After a short while of holding the pot one will start to feel chi energy vibration, and there are many things you can do with this energy. You can move the power around the ‘pot’ of the upper limbs, you can circle it around the meridian running through the center of the front and back of the body, and you can do all sorts of other things.

What is of extreme interest is that this stance has extreme martial arts function. After becoming adept at this posture, doing the kata called Sanchin will reveal amazing amounts of subtle power. One’s martial arts technique will truly start to shine.

This position, incidentally, is one of the ten arm positions, as described in ‘The Perfect Technique,’ (Quality Press). Thus, it becomes a centerpost for martial arts practice. The idea behind this book is that there are only ten positions the arms can assume that will ‘run’ chi energy, and that the position of the arms in the ‘holding the bowl’ position is the first and probably the most critical of these arm positions when developing chi in the martial arts.

How to Have and Win Your Own Kung Fu Contest!

[

]You can have a karate contest, or kung fu or taekwondo or whatever, and you can win at it. The idea for this contest came to me from a fellow I met on the net. He said he wanted to do his karate kata 1000 times in one year.

Now doing a karate kata 1000 times in one year was a lot, but…it could be done. You could do it three times a day for a year, or ten times a day for 100 days, and it certainly seemed doable. So I queried him, and he said that it included a lot of other stuff.

The full regimen included running a thousand miles, do the martial arts form a thousand times, do 40,000 abdominals, and do 40,000 push ups. He even included read a dozen books, and then he added something that made me blink: ten thousand acts of random kindness. Man, now the program was looking a little difficult!

So I started considering his proposal. Half a century ago John Kennedy got everybody in America excited about walking 50 miles in 24 hours. And, the iron man Triathalon began because three athletes in Hawaii got together over how much swim, bike and run they could accomplish. So, even with ten thousand acts of kindness thrown in, the thing was something a person might be able to do.

Now, if you’re attending college and don’t have the time, you could set lower standards, and then do the real thing in a few months during the summer. Or, if you have to be at work a lot, maybe there’s ways to get loose during the week for short work outs, and then do a master blaster on Saturday and Sunday. Or, maybe you’ve got the time and…why not just do it?

I mean, all you’ve got to lose is your belly and laziness and bad habits! Right? So why not?

So I figured you should include the following items. Running, kata, and a full regimen of body calisthenics. Maybe, on the easy side, run two miles, do your kata(s) 2, 3 5, or 10 times (depending on how many kata you know), and do ten different body calisthenics twenty times each.

On the heavy side, maybe you’ve got those summer blues and want to lose them, run ten miles, do your kata 20, 30, 50 times each (depending on how many kata you know), do 50 reps of 10 types of body calisthenics. Man, that would knock the flab off you, make those muscles lean and mean, and give your attitude a sharp but pleasant edge of accomplishment. If you really want to slam…get a half dozen friends and really go for it!

So that’s the contest I was thinking about. I think it is very possible, and it will result in a new and improved you. Whether you have a kung fu contest, or karate or aikido, you’re going to have the best time of your life!

Learning Martial Arts should be as simple as walking, but some martial art sensei would have you believe that it takes long decades. The unhappy truth is that these same martial arts experts are the ones making it difficult to learn. Most instructors teach the subject using the most inefficient method on the planet.

This bit of writing is going to be about the three types of thinking and how they apply to martial art instruction. Knowing the four types of human thinking alters the way people think and learn. This can make learning martial arts as easy as shooting fish in a barrel.

The first thing to be understood int his subject is that people try to learn by viewing the whole picture. They look at the world, try to see the whole thing, and this method of thought is called Mosaic. This is the method utilized by savages, people who need a science of chipping flint spearheads, but no higher abstract.

As mankind evolves linear thought makes an appearance, and this is the sequencing of pieces of data. This includes numbers, different sequences of data so as to facilitate the absorption process that is considered to be learning. This is a much more efficient way of inputting data, and of creating abstracts of data which are necessary to create a civilization, and a functioning human being in that civilization.

The learning method of the martial artist is somewhere between the mosaic and the linear. He is memorizing sequences of techniques, but they are random, muddled, don’t always fit together easily. Consider a technology depending upon the sequencing of concepts such as of 4, S, 2, &, 5, horse, 7, re, pineapple…that is how the martial arts are taught.

When one ‘Matrixes’ a martial art, however, the techniques and general knowledge necessary to learning martial arts have been put in the correct sequence. The result is a better way of learning, for which I coin the term ‘matrixing.’ In this method one absorbs the pictures (completed mosaics) fast enough to absorb whole strings of completed pictures…not single items, but whole and completed pictures.

The only difficulty in this method is that people are often caught and muddled by other methods that they can’t put aside those methods for matrixing. A martial arts master who has learned by the linear method might not be able to put aside that linear method for the matrixing method. It doesn’t happen a lot, but when it does happen the martial artist should probably just continue with his methods and stay away from matrixing.

The final result of matrixing is that the mind becomes intuitive, gets used to working in a more efficient way, and all sorts of other subjects are quickly and easily absorbed. People have been using Matrixing to learn school subjects like math, how to work the internet, how to film movies, how to coach baseball teams, and so on, with incredible results. The best way to learn how to matrix, however, is through learning martial arts.

Matrixing was specifically developed through a study of the martial arts. A variety of martial arts styles have been matrixed and are available, simply mouse to Monster Martial Arts for more data.

Aikido (The Gentle Martial Art)

Aikido is a Japanese martial art founded by Morihei Ueshiba aka ‘O Sensei’ or ‘Great Teacher’. The martial art that had the most influence on Aikido is Daito-Ryu Aikijujutsu. Aikido consists mainly of joint locks and throws. Punching and kicking are taught not as the main technique but to compliment the technique. It is used as a distraction, to imbalance and weaken the attacker. Anyone can punch or kick, it takes skill to be able to apply techniques. Most martial arts consist mostly of punches and kicks, that not only hurts the attacker but that also hurts the practitioner. Aikido practitioners are taught ways to blend and redirect the opponents’ aggressive energy away from themselves and redirect it towards the aggressor. The attacker gets thrown resulting in minimal hurt to him and no hurt to the Aikido practitioner. Aikido is a compassionate and peace-loving, gentle yet effective martial arts that aims to protect not only the Aikido practitioner but even the attacker. In fact, Aikido is too gentle until it gets criticized for being ineffective and not practical in a real-life situation. My response to that is that the techniques people see in the dojo (Training hall) or in videos are just for training and practising with your fellow dojomates so too much force cannot be used. A lot of force and strength is controlled to avoid causing injury to each other whereas in a real-life situation, there is no need to control any force or strength.

Aikido is very good exercise because it exercises the whole body like swimming. Aikido techniques are very graceful, beautiful and gentle. It is because of this gentle nature that anybody can learn regardless of gender or age. Aikido also provides spiritual and mental calmness to its practitioners. When you are able to apply the techniques correctly and get promoted through the ranks, this also helps to build self-confidence and self-esteem.

Aikido is made up of 3 letters:

Ai which means Harmony, Balance or Unify.

Ki which means Life Energy that is in everyone of us. Chinese people call it Qi.This life energy when used properly is even more powerful than physical strength.

Do which means Way. So Aikido is The Way of Unifying the Life Energy.

The Art of Aikido was discovered and given to the world by Morihei Ueshiba. O Sensei (great teacher), as he is called was not an imposing physical figure in the beginning. He was sickly when he was a youngster, and somewhat flakey in his training efforts.

In 1915 the first stage of training in the life of the founder of Aikido commenced. He discovered Takeda Sokaku, who some call the last real samurai, who was the reviver of Daito Ryu Aiki Jujitsu. From 1915 to 1937 Morihei Ueshiba dedicated his life to mastering this ancient art and learning the moves that would result in Aikido techniques.

The second level in the life of the founder of the Art of Aikido was when he met the charismatic Onisaburo Deguchi. Onisaburo was the revered master of the Omoto kyo spiritual practice. Omoto Kyo (Great Source) teaches shinto precepts and the achievement of personal spirituality by seeking virtue.

The Art of Aikido began when Morihei Ueshiba attained spiritual enlightenment in 1925. In a duel with a navel officer, he prevailed over the officer without hurting him through the use of Aikido moves. Afterwards, standing at a well, he experienced a golden glow that sprang from the earth and was divine in nature.

The fourth level in the Art of Aikido occurred in 1942 while Morihei Ueshiba was engaged in ritual purification called Misogi. The techniques of my teachers transformed into something new. Now they were not devices to hurt or maim.

The final stage, in the development in the Art of Aikido came about in 1942, during the height of the World War 2. The Way of the Warrior is not a means to kill and destroy others. To smash, injure, destroy, is the worst thing a human being can do.

These are the five steps of Aikido martial arts, and they stretch from chaos to peace to inspiration. In the fact of war, from tricks to maim and kill to techniques whereby one harmonizes with his opponent. From a means to defend with life taking force, to a method in which one comes to grips with his opponent’s basest motivations.

Do you rage and experience emotional turmoil, live a life of base emotional problems? The way out of this problem is through personal spiritual evolution, not through the maiming of humans and taking of lives. This is the Art of Aikido, and it is an Art that was given to us by Morihei Ueshiba.

The Art of Aikido can be learned through an totally new Martial Arts training method. It is more intense, but easy to work in combat and with other arts. Head to Monster Martial Arts for more information.

Karate Kumite…Should You Get Emotional?

Karate Kumite and Clint Eastwood, I never thought those two things would come together in a single paragraph. In the old western ‘The Outlaw Josie Wales,’ Mr. Eastwood talks to some some soft pioneers about how to get mad dog mean when you’re in a fight to the finish. There is truth to be found in this advice, but if you are training in classical martial arts training, there is also a falsehood.

The truth is that you have to raise up your desire to survive. You have to be willing to do more than you have ever done before. You have to be willing to fight harder and never give up.

The falsehood in this assertion is that emotion increases your desire to win. To understand the significance of this in the martial arts we have to define what, exactly, emotion is. The weird thing is that if you look in a dictionary there is not a good definition.

Emotion is not ‘mood,’ or an ‘instinctive state of mind,’ and a definition like that tells us less than something. So think on this: when somebody is unable to accept reality he/she creates a mental turmoil that is called emotion. That’s a good definition, and I know because I made it up myself, but we have to look deeper if we are really going to understand emotion, it’s value, and how to use it.

The Neutronic way of defining emotion is: ‘Motion inside the mind.’ You feel rage, and in your mind you want to make motion towards somebody (hit them in the face with a baseball bat). But it is all in your mind, and it is not really real.

When you strike another person, would you put energy into your knee? That would be a waste of energy, am I correct? What you want to strive for, as a martial artist, is to put energy only into the fist, or the foot, or the body part you are striking with.

To the degree that you put energy into body parts other than the one(s) being used, to that degree you are inefficient. The same thing holds true for emotion. Energy put into emotion is not energy put into the fight, and into the desire to win; to win it is best if we increase our desire to win, and though emotion can serve as a stepping stone, we need to get mad dog cool and determined, not extra angry.

This all said, emotion is not to be disparaged, for emotion is a tool by which we can read others, release our own feelings, experience things like love, and so on. However, emotion in a fight is not necessary, and can even inhibit a person’s will to fight. The conclusion here is that when it comes to Karate Kumite, while you must increase your desire to win, you must do so without falling into emotion, or trying to use emotion in any way.

Got a thug on your block? Want to be able to to defend yourself? Karate Kumite is the fastest and most efficient way to defend yourself in the world. Click to Monster Martial Arts to find out more.

The Peaceful Martial Art Of Aikido

The subject of oriental Martial Arts is one of the most important presents of Asia to the world. Who will not bear in mind that Bruce Lee was first and foremost a martial arts sports person before becoming a movie star?

Martial arts pictures are a colossal hit with the ever-increasing popularity of Asian cinema like ‘Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon’ and ‘The House of the Flying Daggers’.

The Chinese are the first nation that come to mind if you think of such things, but the Japanese are just as sporty with a rich heritage of body contact sports in their past. Modern Japan still gives honour to the martial arts by holding tournaments and promoting their martial arts in foreign countries.

Aikido is one of these. It is interesting to note the fact that the word comes from three Japanese characters from which is derived the one word. Ai is ‘joining’, Ki means ‘spirit’ and Do is ‘way’.

From this we can understand why Aikido lies beyond merely the physical skills of it students, particularly since its first proponent, Ueshiba, focused on the spiritual and philosophical improvement of his pupils.

In Aikido, one is not educated in violence rather, one is trained to be in harmony with the opponent so that you are able to defeat him more easily. This might appear strange but it really works.

When approaching an opponent, the objective of the Aikido practitioner is to become one with the adversary so as to be able to tackle him where he is weakest and in so doing, deflect or immobilize him, but never to kill him.

This is how Aikido becomes an art form. Art is something beautiful to look at and something positive and Aikido is all that. At least one of the contestants involved in the combat is searching for concord and concord can only be attained if there is grace in the proceedings.

The moves may be calculated, but there is an air of grace in performing these actions. Not a feminine grace, but a grace that emanates peace. The ‘art of peace’ is what they call it in Aikido.

It is one of the most affirmative influences of Aikido on its students and to everyone else who decides to learn about this Japanese martial art.

Some of the moves in Aikido involve the following:

Ikkyo is the first process. Using this technique, you direct an adversary by using one hand to hold his elbow and one to grasp near the wrist. This action is supposed to allow you to pin your opponent down to the ground.

Nikyo, the second process, is when you perform a wrist lock which empowers you to turn the arm of your opponent which will in turn induce nerve pressure.

Sankyo, the third technique, is a technique that creates upward-spiraling tension throughout the arm, elbow and shoulder. There are numerous other techniques but the first three are enough to give you a fundamental insight.

When studying Aikido, it is crucial to remember that, together with building physical strength, you will have to improve your mind to become able to overpower your antagonist. Just| like in any other art form, it takes a lot of training and discipline to reach the summit of the art of Aikido.

The important thing to keep in mind is that anyone who wants to get into the art must have the determination to give honour to the art by performing it in the best manner possible.

Martial Arts at Fault for Decline of America!

That Martial Arts are the real reason for America’s woes is plain to see. The lack of martial art training causes a lack of personal discipline, a loss of self worth, and the decline of individual responsibility. This, correspondingly, has caused the decline of America.

Now, we can rail about the corporations, the president being a communist, the unions trying to get something for nothing, and while there is going to be a certain amount of truth in such things, the personal responsibility for change is still going to fall upon the individual. The sad fact, you see, is that more than 1 out of every 10 Americans over the age of 12 is on meds for depression. This is not responsibility, this is band aids for battle wounds.

These prescription drugs are antidepressants like prozac, and there has been a direct link established between such drugs and suicide. How many people commit suicide because they train in something like Kenpo or Judo? Not too darned many.

So instead of ingesting tablets when they get depressed, Americans should be signing up for that tai chi class, or going to a self defense class, or sweating a little to learn a karate form. Instead of believing in the drug companies and following the orders of the family medical quack. Wouldn’t it be better to learn some ancient and diehard kung fu, get interested in a foreign culture, find out something out about your real self?

Heck, the family quack is trained in medicine, not mental disorders. And psychiatry isn’t really a science. And even if these facts weren’t so, a whopping 1 in 4 people are misdiagnosed with depression!

The real cure for this mental health depression stuff is actually pretty easy. The real cure has to do with improving the lifestyle, eating good foods, getting enough sleep, and learning how to deal with problems. These solutions are what a martial artist naturally gravitates to in his training, and this brings us to the magic three answers to creating real mental health.

Number one, avoid sweeteners, modified (genetically and otherwise) foods, and, in specific, all processed foods. Number two, do a cleanse of some sort to get rid of the toxins already in your body. Number three, exercise, use such things as Karate or Kung Fu or Taekwondo to get your body in top shape, and keep it in top shape.

Heck, the real point here is that drugs don’t really fix anything, and the real wounds fester, actually causing the individual’s condition to worsen. Martial Arts, however, cause good health, the human being wakes up and becomes more responsible, and becomes a wholistic and healthy soul. So I hope you understand what I mean when I say that lack of martial arts is causing the decline of America!

Learn Kung Fu by Flipping the Matrix

There are many ways to learn Karate or to learn kung fu, or to learn any martial art. For the most part, however, most of these methods work in limited ways. There is one method, however, that can be used in any martial art, and drives the learning curve out the roof.

Most methods, you see, are based on monkey see monkey do, which is pretty much the oldest, and most inefficient, martial arts training method in existence, in history, and ever. The modern, state of the art method for learning a martial art is matrixing. No offense, but if you live in some backwoods place and haven’t heard of matrixing, you could probably do a quick google on matrix karate, or matrix kung fu, and find out what it is.

At any rate, there are some rather simple methods one can use if one decides to learn by Kung videos, learn taekwondo online, or whatever. The first method, though it is still of the monkey see monkey do variety, is to learn a form or martial arts kata. The learning curve starts to take off, however, when one realizes that they can practice the form facing in any of the four directions of the compass.

One faces in a certain direction when learning a form, gets used to the direction, even uses key things in the environment to orient oneself. So to start facing east instead of west is actually a good thing. One quickly outgrows the need for environmental cues and starts inputting the form without need for external reference.

A second way to learn self defense forms is to simply do them on both the right and the left side. Everybody comes across this one pretty quickly. To do the Kung Fu forms, or the karate techniques on both the right side and the left side tends to ‘wake up the brain,’ and to make the student consider martial arts moves in new lights.

The third way of studying martial arts forms is to perform them backwards. Do your Karate kata backwards-not just the sequence of blocks and strikes in reverse order, but to reverse motion the moves themselves-and you will find the mental capacity expanding geometrically. Not many people have seen this method, it is difficult to do, but man…does it work!

Now, we have actually left most people behind with the last method, and that’s too bad, because it is about to get juicy. Once one learns how to write a matrix on a martial arts, kung fu, karate, or whatever, they think they have opened up wide new vistas of martial arts techniques. They have only scratched the surface, however, for there are two other things one can do that are simple and easy and yet have profound impact.

First, one can combine matrixes, just as the matrixes use basic techniques, one can use a whole matrix as a base technique, and attach it to another matrix. Second, one can actually flip, or reverse matrixes, and this one uncorks the brain and causes stellar explosions of knowledge. Of course, one has to learn how to write a matrix first, and then do a few of them, but once they have done this they will be able to flip the matrix and learn martial arts faster; they will be able to learn Karate or Kung Fu or any martial art faster than Neo downloads comic books.

Martial Arts coaching – How Did it enhance

To know a lot more about martial arts training, knowing its background is essential. This will aid a single to understand how its ways and method began and developed. A brief discussion about its history will probably be tackled in this article.

Martial arts derived its meaning from the Greek word “mars”. In Greek mythology, Mars will be the god of war. This was termed during the European 15th century. Some methods use tools to compliment their training. The examples of martial arts equipment include the wooden dummy, head gear, gloves, swords, arnis sticks, knives and several more. You’ll find lots of particular training styles to become chosen from that are always interrelated. They are all of the same as an art of mastery, balance, discipline and skills of technique.

The development of martial arts techniques continue to live and its training continue to develop via those who are living it, improving it, and producing their greatest to hold it. It’s constantly changing and surviving with some developments.
